This is actually version 3.0 of my first build in 10
years, I started with a very budget friendly build that I was never
satisfied with. Well i'm done and here is what I've learned!
CPU: Went with the best I could afford, I played with non
overclockable i5 6600 in the past but this one really shines with an
easy 4.4ghz OC!
CPU Cooler: Wasn't sure what to go with here but I knew I did not
like the aesthetics of big air coolers and I read a lot of good about
corsair H80i v2, it keeps my cpu cool under gaming stress never going
over 65C!
Motherboard: This was a great value motherboard and I bought this a
few months ago when prices seem a bit higher on the z170 boards. It has
everything I could need, plenty of USB 3.1 and Sata ports and 3x 4pin
fan headers. The overclocking was easy, I simply picked the CPU
multiplier and the auto voltage took care of the rest, not to mention it
handles overclocked ddr4 ram.
Storage: I initially had just a 1tb HD at 7200 rpm's but on a trusted
reccomendation I grabbed a SSD and i'll never go back, the boot times
are great! I still have a Seagate 1TB for storage.
Video Card: I got the best I could get in a single GPU, the GTX 1080
is a beast, i'd recommend nothing less for a 1440p 144hz monitor on a
single GPU! 120+ FPS in Overwatch and I'll be testing DOOM tonight!
Case: This was part of my budget build but I really like the color
and it has a decent amount of room for a Mid tower, I would however go
for a full tower with much better cable management options in the future
(not that this one is bad just not great).
PSU: This is a great PSU, Modular and powerful. I do however with I
had gotten the G2 instead of the G1 its a very small price difference
but I cannot find individually sleeved cables for the G1.
Monitor: This monitor is great! I do however with I could have had
the patience to wait until I either had enough money for a 1440p 144hz
ips G-Sync Monitors. Here is to hoping adaptive sync is one day
supported!
