Notes

This rig was built half from leftover parts from prev builds and upgraded parts from Adam. It is for my wife, she just uses it for pictures, family use, and mostly Java-based gaming - so no high vid specs here. Just using an old barely used vid card bought for temporary purposes. I just replaced the crapped-out Asus P6T & i7-920 W/my EVGA X58 E758, Megahalems, and the i7-960 from Adam. My wife loves it.

One drawback: The R3E (Unlike the RIVE or R4E) only had one USB header, that had to be connected to the multi-card reader. This leaves the CM case FP USB receptacles useless. I suppose I could buy a rear-panel feedthrough adapter...

Pics updated. The Rampage series mobo's are awesome, a few more bells & whistles than necessary, pricey, but awesome. And, unlike EVGA, they just work right. Bought the R3E on e-bay, factory reconditioned (from RMA). Didn't get all the pieces that would have shipped W/the mobo, but IDC, those particular pieces were not needed anyway (such as the Asus "Q connector", ProbeIt plugs, and the rear USB/Firewire port bracket). And solved the carpet prob W/the new Seasonic Platinum PSU: It mounts with the fan upward. I have enough intake fans to compensate for that. I like it.

Just changed the mobo, from EVGA X58 SLI (1st gen), to Asus R3E. Now sleep mode works right. Bricked the defective CM Silent Power Pro, put in the Seasonic Platinum-860. Took one 7870 from my computer (Adam). Will update pics soon.

I put in my "old" Soundblaster X-Fi Titanium pro soundcard in this, my wife's, computer; and bought her Klipsch Promedia 2.1 speakers (I didn't know they still sold new ones) - the speakers all subsequent ones were compared to, the standing King of speakers (yet aged tech). And they are awesome. They rival my Altec Lansing ADA880s. Almost as loud, just as clear and crisp, good sound quality across almost all frequencies even at high volume. No distortion. My ADA880s are just slightly better, and I would bet they sound better at high volume than anything commercially sold out there <$200. But I digress.

My wife wanted to try playing Skyrim, so I needed to update her gfx. I took my 5850s out of Adam, and the 1600 Mushkin redline ridgebacks (replacing the Corsair 1600 XMS3 that gave occasional BSODs lately), and put them in Eve. Then after shimming up the case 1/2" for carpet clearance, it's now a good gaming rig, and my wife loves Skyrim!

"My wife loves it." When mom's not happy, no one is HER house is happy! That’s always the most important rule in our house! Now I know you are a smart man, jk I knew that long before I came here to post on this rig! I got my wife an HP Touch smart "cuz she had to have it" she was in love, though I don't think she has ever used the touch screen, even though I told her she probably wouldn't. Ever tried to type an email or URL, or anything for that matter on a pc touch screen? It’s uncomfortable to say the least. That’s why I went ahead and got her a wireless keyboard and mouse. I like the rig names, as much as I like your screen name lol. +1...again. You're the man HalloweenWeed!

Silverstone Sound Dampening Foam Pack was much better than the Thermaltake pack. TT pack came off when the surface was not completely flat.

Daym, been having probs. Suspected SSD (RMAd the WD drive a month ago, said had test errors), ripped it out, rebuilt Windows wo/SSD, then had more probs, HDD fine now, and it started not detecting an HDD on the SATA port. Then mobo refused to begin POST, even W/HDD disconnected, shut down after 1/10sec; then OK after cooling. Seems like a bad mobo. Prob going to change mobo.
